Music Appreciation for BZBI’s Youngest Students

January 14, 2016

Our Early Childhood Playschool and Preschool had the pleasure of a special music performance by Amy Oshiro-Morales, second violin section in the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ricardo Morales who is the principal clarinet for the Philadelphia Orchestra.

The students were treated to various styles of music such as, jazz, classical, as well as a current favorite of our students, “Let it Go’ from the movie sound track of “Frozen”.

EC 1-20Both performers educated our students on the different components that made up their respective instruments. We learned about the tuning pegs, chin rest and bridge of the violin. The clarinet is constructed of hard wood, usually Afircan Blackwood- sometimes called Grenadilla. The natural color of the wood is very dark brown or black. Sometimes it is dyed black so the parts appear to be of the same piece of wood and the instruments in the orchestra look the same.

The performance really hit a “high note “when their daughter Victoria Morales, of our Parparim class, enchanted us with a performance on her violin. Victoria will be performing for the Playschool and Preschool again in the spring!

We will be forever grateful to the Morales family for taking time from their busy schedules and sharing their special talents with us!
