BZBI, where you thrive

Membership

As a young married couple moving to Philadelphia who grew up in the conservative movement, we were naturally attracted to BZBI. Over the last six months we have met many new friends. We are so grateful to have BZBI as a part of our new home in Philadelphia.

Welcome,

Thank you for your interest in our congregation. We are pleased to introduce you to our synagogue and many of the wonderful aspects of our congregational community.

Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel is an urban, fully egalitarian, inclusive Conservative congregation in the heart of Center City. We are truly a neighborhood shul, where you will see your community around town. We’ve been part of the fabric of our city and the Philadelphia Jewish community for 175 years.

After a quarter century of leadership by Rabbi Ira Stone (now our Rabbi Emeritus), we’ve expanded our clergy team. Two years ago we welcomed two new rabbis, Rabbi Abe Friedman and Rabbi Yosef Goldman, to lead us together. We are a synagogue with a rich history and an exciting future.

It is our hope that BZBI is a community where you will find inspiration and deep connection through study, worship, and social and communal engagement. Together we are creating a sacred community that listens to one another’s aspirations. Together we are building a 21st century Jewish institution that is personal, meaningful, and fulfilling. We welcome all to join us in community, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our goal is to help you find connection – through traditional or alternative options for prayer and spiritual engagement, adult education, Shabbat and holiday opportunities for families with young children, arts and cultural experiences, and social justice initiatives. Come experience for yourself some of the many opportunities to connect, in our building, throughout the city of Philadelphia, or with one of our many community partnerships.

We are proud to be a multigenerational congregation, and we are happily seeing an increase in new members at different life stages. It’s an exciting time to be at BZBI, and we invite you to be a part of it. If you have any questions about the congregation or would like to talk with one of our clergy or one of our members, please be in touch. We’d love to hear from you and we look forward to seeing you in the neighborhood!
