Book of Remembrance
Yizkor means “may [God] remember,” from the Hebrew root zachor. It is the memorial prayer for departed loved ones and is said four times a year on the eighth day of Passover, the second day of Shavuot, Yom Kippur, and Shemini Atzeret.
The Book of Remembrance is used four times a year when Yizkor is recited, beginning with Yom Kippur and continuing with Shemini Atzeret, the last day of Pesach and the second day of Shavuot.
