Welcoming Hazak to BZBI

January 28, 2016

Hazak is an organization under the umbrella of United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism aimed at members 55 years and greater. (Clearly an arbitrary line in the sand.)  It is a complimentary congregational program for members and because it is, each community must develop projects that suit the needs of their individual congregation.

Hazak is an acronym meaning:

chet for hokhmah, meaning wisdom,

zayin for ziknah, meaning maturity,

and kuph for kadima, meaning looking ahead.

In addition hazak also means strength.  Certainly these are an admirable combination of attributes upon which to base programming.

These programs can be educational, spiritual, social or tikkun olam.  Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel is reinvigorating its Hazak group, and we hope to reach out to our membership to find out what you want.  We need your input and support to allow this to flourish.

The first event for this year will be a brunch at my home on Sunday, January 31st.  We hope this will be the first in a series of such gatherings.

On February 20th, one of our members, Art Fischman and his group will be playing at the Paris Wine Bar in Fairmount.  If you would like to join us and perhaps go together, please let me know.

If you are interested in participating in any of these activities or have exciting ideas for programs, please let me know or you can leave a message at BZBI office.

I look forward to watching Hazak grow,

Marianne Emmett
