Tu B’Shevat in the Laurie Wagman Playschool & Abigail R. Cohen Preschool

February 1, 2016

Tu B’Shevat, the 15th day of the month of Shevat on the Jewish calendar, is the day that marks the birthday of trees.

This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle.

Our Playschool and Preschool celebrated Tu B’Shevat with a seder. Each class learned the special blessings we say for the fruit that grows on the trees.

It is also a tradition at Tu B’Shevat time for our Playschool and Preschool to hold a bake sale and use the proceeds for planting trees in Israel. Each class participated by preparing a special baked good for the sale.

Our Mommy volunteers, Sara Daniels and Rachel Silverman helped us sell the delicious Pretzel Bark, Rice Krispie Treats, Tree Cookies, Banana Muffins, Fudgie Brownies, and Michigan Rock cookies.

Similar to the baby trees that will be planted in our school’s name that grow year into healthy, strong, independent, prosperous trees; our children partake in their own journey of growth and development.  Around Tu B’ Shevat it is a joy to look back to the beginning of the year and relish in each child’s transition into confident little people.
