Warming up with Pajama Havdallah

November 29, 2016

phhavdjonahWhat a warm, beautiful evening of community at our first Pajama Havdalah of the school year. We were joined by over twenty families all in their PJ’s. Teacher and clergy lead us in singing and dancing. It was so fun to see the teachers in their very colorful pajamas! How wonderfully silly!

We all had so much fun dancing to “Because I Love You So Much” and singing with our loudest voices “Bye, Bye Yuckies”. All the fun combined with the spiritual sense of Havdalah lent itself to a strong community bond among the friends and families of BZBI. Perhaps the most special part of the evening was when we slowed down and were reminded to be present, in the moment as we sang “Hineni”. The song tells us, “there’s nothing more important than being here with you”. Hearing the children sing these words, together, was a very touching moment. We also read a little book called “Laila Tov: A Bedtime Poem for Babies” by Richard Van Camp.

After the Havdalah service, we all enjoyed fresh fruit and homemade butter cookies in the shapes of stars and moons of course! Everyone left with their hearts full of ‘ruach’ and looking forward to the next time we will gather together as a community.
