Teens Living Torah

November 29, 2016

Teaching Torah to Teens is a great program at BZBI that mainly focuses on Torah study for teens, as the title suggests. One Saturday each month, I wake up early to go to Teaching Torah to Teens because I love it. The lessons are all so different and so unique and fun. One month we’ll do yoga, then the next month we’ll study the text and apply it to our lives. One reason I really like Teaching Torah to Teens is because I enjoy the visitors that come to teach us. Sometimes the visitor will teach us about a different religion and other times they’ll just talk about different aspects of our lives. I love how Teaching Torah to Teens is so oriented to kids and it is made to be hands-on and fun. When visitors who are non-Jews join us to teach us about their cultures they always have fascinating stories. We just met a Mennonite who told us about how he gets to choose when he is going to be baptized. He said that his sister was already baptized but he hasn’t felt strongly enough to do it yet. I thought it was so cool that he can choose when he is baptized. Also, when visitors come they always have a fun activity or a discussion that relates back to our everyday lives and helps me to open my mind to other religions and peoples’ perspectives. I feel like Teaching Torah to Teens is a great environment and I learn so much from my friends. It’s an amazing community and an awesome environment for me to make friends, study Torah, and feel like I’m part of a community.
