RH²: What It Means to Our Community

August 1, 2018

We are looking forward to our fifth annual RH² evening of music and prayer on Sunday, September 9, at 5:30 PM in Rittenhouse Square. As we enter the final hours of our Jewcer campaign, we want to thank everyone who either contributed to or shared our page. We also want to share some stories about RH² that inspired us this summer!

“RH² was a wonderful introduction to the BZBI community. We packed a picnic dinner and had a lovely evening outside celebrating the High Holy Days surrounded by other families. I was a bit concerned about the boys’ transition to playschool with all the days off for Jewish holidays. However, RH² was a great opportunity to see Miss Lori, Miss Leah and other familiar faces. We spent time with other families from the boys’ class and ran into friends from the neighborhood who we didn’t even know were part of the BZBI community. We’re looking forward to attending RH² for many years to come.” –Meryl Tucker, Early Childhood Education parent.

“Rosh Hashanah celebrates the beginning of the Jewish New Year. Last year was my first year joining BZBI synagogue. How fun it was and so spiritual to invite my friends to sit with me in the Rittenhouse Park to pray, sing Jewish songs, and dance while enjoying a meal I prepared to share with my friends and anyone around me. Starting the New Year with community, laughter, and fun and augmented by Rabbi Yosef’s melodic voice gave me such happiness. A great way to start a New Year for me. So looking forward to it again.” -Sandy Goldberg, BZBI member, joined in 2017.

“Outside of bringing amazingly catchy lyrics to children and their families, one of my main performance goals is to bring communities of people together through music and good times. When Rabbi Yosef asked me to open the musical festivities for RH² in 2017/5777, I planned a 10 minute set list that would get all ages clapping, jumping, singing and celebrating (hopefully). I had no idea that I would embark on a musical, spiritual and religious experience like I’d never had before. I found myself on a stage in the middle of Rittenhouse Square, surrounded by fellow Jewish musicians, fellow Jewish educators, fellow Jewish families and Jewish friends all in attendance to celebrate the Jewish New Year in an atmosphere was warm, inviting, communal, celebratory and open. It was a truly unique and awesome manner in which to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and I look forward to it with great anticipation for 2018/5778.” -Lori Turner, Early Childhood Music Specialist and Opening Act at RH².
