The Lone Soldier Project

April 18, 2018

We wanted to let you know about our B’nai Mitzvah Project which is to raise awareness of and raise funds for the Lone Soldier Center in Israel.

The Lone Soldier Center provides support including meals, housing, information and advice to soldiers serving in the Israel Defense Force (IDF) who do not have family in Israel.    When we were in Israel last year, we went to the center in Jerusalem to have Shabbat dinner with the soldiers and saw first hand the wonderful experience they had there.

The Lone Soldier Center is named in honor of Michael Levin who was from the Philadelphia area and was killed while serving in the IDF in Lebanon.  When we returned from Israel, we met with Michael’s parents who told us about Michael.  He loved Israel which is why he wanted to serve in the IDF but he also loved Philadelphia sports teams and was a twin like us.

We recently organized a program for our classmates at the Neziner Hebrew School to share with them what we had learned about the Lone Soldier Center.  We showed a movie about Michael Levin and also invited a former lone soldier, David Moed, to come to speak to the students.  David shared his experience as a lone soldier and answered lots of questions from the students.

We believe that the Lone Soldier Center does very important work and helps many people.  We hope that you will consider making a donation which you can do at a website which we have set up especially for our B’nai Mitzvah Project.

Thanks for your support.
