Integral to our community is Tikkum Olam (repairing the world). During Hanukkah, we focus giving back, and encourage you to help by serving others for eight days through a program we call #Servefor8. Contact us for more information and ways to get involved.
December 1 – December 15 Collections: All donation boxes can be found in the Goldberg Sanctuary; boxes will be clearly labeled based on item type.
If you would like to order the items listed on Amazon and send them directly to BZBI (300 South 18 Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103) you can do so by clicking here.
- Socks, gloves, hats, men’s underwear, scarves
- Sample sized toiletries and backapacks
- Wrapping paper
- Snack collection: granola bars, fruit snacks, juice boxes, nuts, crackers (please donate anything that is in small, individually wrapped packages, we cannot accept large boxes)
- Coats (for HIAS clients)
December 15: Wrap up event from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Klinghoffer Chapel. We will be wrapping all donated items and packing snacks. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please reach out to Julia Pollock or Eileen Dwell.
December 15: Drop off baked goods at BZBI for Howies House/Gift of Life from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Do some holiday baking with your family and donate a batch to these organizations. Accepted baked goods include brownies, individual cookies, muffins and cupcakes (no loafs please).
December 25: Trinity Winter Shelter volunteering – Each year BZBI cooks and serves 20-25 men who reside in the Trinity Church at 22nd and Spruce Streets. It’s a wonderful experience for all involved as we “break bread” together. You can participate in a number of ways. Please email Rachel Luterman if you plan to help set up and serve dinner.

January 20: Volunteer at MANNA – Join your BZBI community on MLK, Jr. Day at MANNA to help prepare food for people living with serious illness. We have committed to filling the evening shift (5:00 – 8:00 PM) at the MANNA facility at 420 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and would love to see you there! Teens 14+ years old are welcome. Fill out this Google Interest Form and Suzy Dayanim will reach out to you with volunteer details. Can’t wait for Hanukkah? Ready to start eating more latkes? Join us for a pre-Hanukkah gathering featuring yummy eats and an intense competition that will imagine what it would look like if Bob Barker were Jewish. Register here (optional donation encouraged)! Drinks are BYOB.

Sisterhood Giftshop Hanukkah Shopping
Special Hanukkah gifts, Judaica, jewelry, toys and more are available at the gift shop, with shopping by appointment only. Call the Temple office at 215-735-5148 to schedule an appointment.
