Summary of July and September 2019 Board Meetings

September 26, 2019

July  Meeting

We reviewed the staff health insurance options with a mind to optimizing coverage while remaining fiscally responsible for the synagogue.
The year-end financial report revealed a small surplus, after showing a deficit the year before. This difference was due to staffing changes as well as an increase in membership, annual giving and a little more from the nursery school.
Rabbi Annie Lewis will start on August 5. We have begun the task of replacing Executive Director Donna Rosenthal with an experienced interim Executive Director very soon. The search for the permanent replacement will start after the High Holidays.

September Meeting

Our insurance broker hosted open enrollment to help our staff select health insurance options. It was well attended and received by staff.
Members responded generously to our membership mailing and annual giving pledge cards, such that we realized an increase in annual giving this year.
The cost of our new kitchen will be much higher than originally anticipated.
As a result of our discussion about transparency from the Board, we have implemented summaries of our meeting and are exploring whether to establish and distribute a new BZBI member directory.
The Board will commence work on a vision statement, with input from our board and congregants, that will establish our goals and strategy for attaining those goals.
Harvey Friedrich is our new temporary Executive Director. Tovah Rosenthal will be leaving on September 18, and efforts to replace her have begun.
