Mazel Tov Lev!

May 29, 2018

Lev Burstein is in the 7th grade at The Philadelphia School.  He has been part of the BZBI community since birth and also attended the synagogue preschool.  He plays several sports including basketball, track, and flag football.  He loves to cook, fish, bike ride, invent, and is a true entrepreneur, starting his own business called Hot Sauce for Heat.

For his B’nai Mitzvah project, Lev worked to raise awareness and money for the those in Philadelphia who cannot afford heat in the winter. A portion of the proceeds from every bottle of his hot sauce (which you can buy here) pays the heating bill for someone in need in the Philadelphia area.

The funds will benefit The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP. LIHEAP helps low-income families pay their heating bills. LIHEAP is a grant that offers assistance in the form of a cash grant, sent directly to the utility company, or a crisis grant for households in immediate danger of being without heat.

Lev, his brother Ari, and parents, Sharon Ravitch and Andy Burstein, are excited to celebrate his B’nai Mitzvah on June 2.
