In the spring of 1972, police raided an apartment on the South Side of Chicago where seven women who were part of a clandestine network were arrested and charged. Using code names, fronts, and safe houses to protect themselves and their work, the accused had built an underground service for women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortions. They called themselves “Jane.” Join us in person at BZBI as we watch the award-winning documentary The Janes and speak directly with one of the group’s founders, Heather Booth (via Zoom).
Heather Booth is an American civil rights activist, feminist, and political strategist who helped to found The Jane Collective. An active member of the Jewish community, Heather will join us via Zoom from Washington, DC.
