We will turn our attention to one of the foundation documents that eventually furnished material used by the Rabbis in the formation of the Mishnah and the Talmud. The Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael, compiled in the early 3rd century is a commentary on the Torah with both narrative and legal pronouncements that helped to define emerging Rabbinic culture.
