Midrash, one of the fundamental genres of Jewish literature, came into being almost 2,000 year ago and was developed and composed by thousands of sages working in parallel – all of whom were men. In our generation, increased opportunities for women to study and teach led to a renewed interest in composing Midrash. In this series, we will study selections from Dirshuni, a two-volume collection of Midrash by contemporary Israeli women, and explore the ways in which their writings connect with classical Midrash and how women’s voices expand the horizons of Torah.
