Join us for a fascinating book talk with author and BZBI member Sharon Musher. Her new book, Promised Lands: Hadassah Kaplan and the Legacy of American Jewish Women in Early Twentieth-Century Palestine draws on the records of her grandmother, the second daughter of Mordecai Kaplan – founder of Reconstructionism and initiator of the first bat mitzvah with Hadassah’s older sister. Focusing on an increasingly contentious topic – American Zionism – through social, cultural, and family history, this readable and engaging book offers an intimate view into the interwar lives of Jewish women.
About the Author: Sharon Ann Musher is Professor of History at Stockton University. She writes and teaches social, cultural, and oral history with a focus on the New Deal, Jewish women, and motherhood. She is the author of Democratic Art: The New Deal’s Influence on American Culture (University of Chicago Press, 2015).
