The confluence of a global pandemic, social upheaval, and increasingly devastating weather-related disasters have heightened urgent questions about society, community and the fate of our planet. We are now in the shemita (sabbatical) year—a year of pause, release, and renewal.
On Wednesday November 3 at 7:00 PM via Zoom, we launch a study of shemita, featuring an in-depth conversation with:
- Heather McGhee, author of The Sum of Us,
- Rabbi Benay Lappe, founder and Rosh Yeshiva of Svara, and
- Dr. Laurie Zoloth, professor of Religion and Ethics at Harvard Divinity School.
Drawing from their respective expertise in social and economic policy, Jewish history and rabbinics, and ethics and theology, our speakers will discuss how we can use the crises of the past two years as an opportunity to reimagine and rebuild our world in a new image.
