Tisha B’Av 5784: Long Shadows of Silence

August 12 2024

Join BZBI as we observe Tisha B’Av, the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. The evening will begin with regular mincha at 5:45 PM, followed by a session with Davida Charney on psalms of lamentation (part of the series, “Identifying (with) Speakers in the Psalms – register here).

At 7:00 PM, we will join together with filmmaker Rudolf Leiprecht to watch his film Long Shadows of Silence: A Forbidden Love during the Second World War. This film explores antisemitism, racism, violence, silence, and taboo in the Netherlands and Germany. Following the screening, we will have the opportunity to ask Rudolf questions about this very personal film. At 8:15 PM, we will continue with maariv and a solemn reading of Eicha (the Book of Lamentations).

5:45-6:00 PM: Mincha
6:00-7:00 PM: Psalms class, focused on Lamentations
7:00-8:15 PM: Film screening and Q&A with filmmaker
8:15-9:15 PM: Maariv and Eicha Reading

On Tuesday, August 13 – Minyan will take place IN PERSON at 7:45 AM in the Klinghoffer Chapel. Mincha will take place in person at 2:00 PM.
