The First Pages

January 16 2019, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

In this set of three interactive sessions taught by Michael Carasik, participants will encounter “the first page” of the Bible, the Mishnah, the Talmud, the midrash, and Rashi’s commentary. Each session consists of an introduction setting the historical stage for the text; learning in small hevruta-style groups of 2 or 3, focused on questions I will pose; and a follow-up discussion of possible answers to those questions and what they tell us about the text.  This set of classes is meant to introduce learners to the great Jewish classics and to set them on the road to further learning.

All texts will be studied in English, but Hebrew texts will be available for those who want them.

The tuition for this three session course is $36 for BZBI members and $50 for the General Community. The class begins January 16 and runs until January 30.
