Tikkun Olam Knitting and Crocheting

On the last Monday of each month, the Tikkun Olam committee invites you to join old and new friends for Zoom knitting and crocheting. Lessons and laughter will be had by all.

Our focus will be to knit hats and scarves for Project Home and Bethesda Project. Caps for Keppies and Scarves of Hugs for homeless and housing insecure clients. No experience is necessary!  Please RSVP if you are interested, along with your level of knitting experience, if you are left or right handed. All supplies are available from smile@Amazon.com or any craft store like Michael’s. Registration for the Zoom class can be found here.

Your First Project: An Easy Hat

To get you into the spirit, this hat is a good starter project and even comes with an on-line tutorial! Below is a list of supplies for knitting the hat. Completed hats will be donated to the Bethesda Project for distribution to homeless adults.  This is great way to learn a new hobby and help others in need.

Supply list

  • 1 skein (106 yards) of chunky weight knitting year (consider Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick
  • US #11 circular needle ’16 inch
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Directions

Our hat project has a tutorial at KnittingBHooked.crochet.com/beginnerhat so you can sneak a peek before we begin, and you can access help between sessions.

  • CO (Cast on) 44 sts
  • Rounds 1-6 K1(Knit 1), P1 (Pearl 1)
  • Rounds 7-26 K (Knit)

Finishing

  • Leave a 24” tail of yarn
    Thread you yarn needle with this tail of yarn
    Feed your needle through each stitch and pull to close the opening
    Weave in refining tail of yarn.
