This summer marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Six Day War and the reunification of Jerusalem, a week that reshaped the Middle East and whose ramifications continue to unfold in today’s headlines. To mark and reflect upon this milestone, BZBI will be holding a Pop-Up Book Club, three discussions focused on three important books about the Six Day War.
For our second meeting on Saturday, April 15 after Kiddush, we will discuss Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East by Michael B. Oren. Focusing primarily on the six days of conflict, Oren provides the first comprehensive account of the event.
In order to provide a rich discussion for all, we request that participants read at least chapters, “The Crisis,” “Countdown,” and “Aftershocks.”
The third event will review Gershom Gorenberg, The Accidental Empire: Israel and the Birth of the Settlements, 1967-1977.
This series is sponsored by the Israel Engagement Committee.
