Hoshana Rabba

Hoshana Rabba

October 11 2017, 7:30 AM - 11:00 AM

During Hoshana Rabba services, worshipers hold the lulav and etrog (the palm branch, the citron, the willows, and the myrtles), and make seven circuits around the room while reciting Hoshana hymns – entreating God to deliver us, especially from famine and drought. The service concludes with attendees taking bunches of willows and beating them on the ground three times so that the leaves fall off–a symbolic representation of the rain, required for good crops, which beats on the leaves.
