Coffee & Conversation

December 8 2018, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Following our weekly school-wide Asefa (gathering) at 10:00 am, all parents and other adults in the community are invited to the Kahaner for what has become one of our favorite Youth and Family Education traditions. You will have a chance to socialize with other parents, engage in thought-provoking conversation, and enjoy pastries and coffee while your children are downstairs learning or engaged in other activities. Sponsored by the Youth & Family PTA.

For this Coffee & Conversation, Rabbi Abe Friedman will lead a discussion on egalitarianism. Egalitarianism – the idea that men and women should participate equally in all areas of Judaism – has long been a point of pride for Conservative congregations, including BZBI. Today, however, the struggles for gender inclusion from the 1970s and 1980s have given way to new questions about how to best teach girls – and boys – to observe Judaism in an age when full egalitarianism is the starting point rather than a goal.
