The event will be held in the conference room of the Rittenhouse Plaza\, 1901 Walnut Street. COVID protocols will be followed. \nA portion of the proceeds will benefit BZBI Sisterhood for support of programs of the Neziner Hebrew School\, Laurie Wagman Playschool\, and Abigail R. SUMMARY:Shabbat Guest Speaker: Cathryn Miller-Wilson
DESCRIPTION:This Shabbat\, we welcome Cathryn Miller-Wilson\, Executive Director of HIAS Pennsylvania\, for a discussion of the situation in Ukraine. She will discuss the implications of the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security’s announcement that Temporary Protected Status is available for Ukrainians effective on March 3\, 2022. \nHIAS Pennsylvania supports low-income immigrants of all backgrounds as they build new lives in our community. Through immigration legal services and an array of social services\, we work to address their needs\, defend their rights\, and advocate for their equitable inclusion in American society. For more information and to donate\, click here. \nCathryn has been Executive Director since November 2016. Her prior experience includes roles as Visiting Assistant Professor at Villanova University School of Law where she co-taught the Civil Justice Clinic -Legal Writing. From September 2008 through June 2011. She has also been Deputy Managing Attorney at the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania and an adjunct professor at Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law. \nShe is the primary author of Pennsylvania’s Standby Guardianship Act which became law in December 1998. With support from the Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law\, she created a medical/legal partnership between the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania and the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center at Philadelphia FIGHT in 2007. Cathryn graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and currently sits on the law school’s Board of Managers. In 2004 she was awarded the Penn Law Alumni Society’s Young Alumni Award for Professional Achievement.
