DESCRIPTION:Join the sisterhood for a brunch and learning program with Gedalia Penner-Robinson that benefits the Torah Fund on Sunday\, April 16. A minimum 18$ donation will be required to attend. \nGedalia Penner-Robinson\, originally from Queens\, NY\, began his musical career as a singer and then musical director of Y-Studs A Cappella\, with whom he toured the globe sharing traditional\, liturgical\, Israeli and pop music\, and produced Jewish Holiday parodies and other music videos enjoyed by millions of viewers on YouTube. In 2019\, as a resident of the Rising Song Institute in Mt. Airy\, he studied song-leading with renowned song-leader Joey Weisenberg\, where his eyes were opened to both the breadth of the spiritual Jewish community and his passion for leading song and prayer within it. His time studying in Philadelphia also led him to BZBI\, where he has served as Torah reading coordinator & High Holiday cantorial soloist\, and continues to teach Torah reading to adults in BZBI’s Torah Academy. He is currently pursuing his cantorate at the H. L. Miller Cantorial School at JTS\, and as a studying cantor\, strives to build a Jewish world where everyone is heard and everyone knows that their voice matters. \nTo register for this event\, click here.

Join Israeli educator Guy Ambar for a weekly conversational Hebrew lunch at BZBI. \nEach week will focus on a different theme\, and vocabulary lists will be provided in advance for those who wish to prepare. Levels from beginner to advanced are welcome\, with the understanding that you will speak only in Hebrew (and hand motions!) during the program. \nEach session will be $10\, (please bring cash or check with you payable to Guy Ambar). DESCRIPTION:Join BZBI and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia as we clean up the play yard at Greenfield\, a public elementary and middle school. Spend the morning in the heart of the city as we give back to our community by taking care of our public spaces. Come help maintain and beautify the yard\, ensuring that it is clean and welcoming for kids to play. \nThe play yard is open to the Philadelphia community. The yard was created as part of the city’s green storm water infrastructure investments and is home to native plants and a small fruit orchard. DESCRIPTION:    Join BZBI and JCRC to learn from author Oren Kessler. He will be visiting our Shul to discuss his new book\, “Palestine 1936” with the community. Books will be available for purchase at the event along with the oppurtunity for them to be signed by Kessler. To register for this free event\, click here.  \nOren Kessler is a journalist and author\, formerly deputy research director at Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington and currently based in Tel Aviv. \nHis first book is Palestine 1936: The Great Revolt and the Roots of the Middle East Conflict. It tells the epic story – for the first time in English – of the 1936-1939 Arab Revolt in Mandate Palestine\, the forgotten first “Intifada” that was a seminal event in the birth of Israel and the Middle East conflict\, with lasting echoes until today. The book has been enthusiastically received\, including very positive reviews in the Wall Street Journal and Haaretz\, and reaching #1 on Amazon for new releases in Middle East History.

DESCRIPTION:BZBI will welcome Elad Strohmayer\, the Spokesperson of the Embassy of Israel to the United States\, back to Philly as part of Philadelphia’s Shabbat Gatherings in honor of Israel 75. \nElad was an integral member of the Philadelphia community when he served as Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic Region from 2012 to 2015.  As the Israeli Embassy’s spokesperson in Washington DC\, he now serves as a resource for editors\, journalists\, and broadcasters to receive information and official statements on issues relating to Israel\, notably in the areas of politics\, economics\, middle east affairs\, culture\, and energy. \nUpon his return to BZBI\, Elad will engage us in a conversation about Israel at 75 after Shabbat Kiddush.
