Inclement Weather Policy
BZBI Building (Services and Adult Programming)
We are always open for Shabbat services (except in the event of an extraordinary weather event) – whoever can come should come if the sidewalks are clear enough to walk. For a weekday snow fall, listen to school closings on KYW; if the Philadelphia schools are closed, then daily minyan and adult programs are also cancelled for that day. For evening programs please call the synagogue (215-735-5148). If the building is open, your call will be answered.
Laurie Wagman Playschool and Abigail R. Cohen Preschool
When the Philadelphia Public Schools are closed for bad weather, the Abigail R. Cohen Preschool and Laurie Wagman Playschool are also closed. Please listen to any radio, television station, or visit the School District of Philadelphia’s homepage during inclement weather to find out if the Philadelphia Public Schools are closed. Should there be a 2-hour delayed opening of the Philadelphia Public Schools; the Abigail R. Cohen Preschool and Laurie Wagman Playschool will open at 10:30 am. The Playschool will dismiss at noon, with Lunch Bunch dismissing at its regular time, 1:00 pm. The Preschool, Pre-K and Afternoon Enrichment groups will dismiss at their regular time.
Neziner Hebrew School
In the event of inclement weather on a weekday, the Neziner Hebrew School follows the decisions made by the School District of Philadelphia. With regard to Shabbat mornings, we have decided that if there is 4 inches of snow on the ground, then the Neziner Hebrew School will officially be closed. Some of our staff however live within walking distance . These teachers have graciously agreed to walk to BZBI on those Shabbatot when school is officially closed and lead programming/services for our youngest BZBIers. Teachers will only come if the sidewalks are clear enough for them to walk here safely. Typically if school is cancelled on a Shabbat morning, the synagogue will still be open, and you are always welcome to join us for services.
